IMHO filtering by sender/subject/date would be sufficient in 90% of cases and it's not very hard to implement.

Jeff, maybe you consider changing your mind by implementing SOCKS support? Currently there are many privacy applications realized as Socks proxy i.e. Tor, I2P, VPN.
