Because Yahoo.com and Yahoo India have the most Yahoo users. Yahoo wants them to pay for POP3 access.

Welcome the PP forums. Go into the Yahoo options menu and enable POP3 access. Then you will be connect Yahoo with POP Peeper as a POP3 account.

POP3 server: pop.gmx.com
IMAP server: imap.gmx.com
SMTP server: mail.gmx.com, authentication required.

You can use standard ports or SSL ports if you enabled SSL.

Nerdshack has changed its name to Lavabit. It has always been a reliable POP3 service. Now it has added IMAP. Server name is lavabit.com for POP3, IMAP, and SMTP. My account doesn't have access yet, so if somebody's does, can they confirm if "idle" is supported and does it work correctly? Idle doesn't necessarily rely on the recent flag to work, but they are obviously related... I can confirm that you can check the box in PP for IDLE. I assume that...

I do not know of any email service other than Hotmail that uses Webdav. Hotmail will soon have free POP3 access. Paid Hotmail users already has POP3.
