check mail function not working
check mail function not working
it seems that PP will acknowledge new mail coming in but the mailbox icon doesn't wave it's flag anymore, and also when I choose to manually check mail nothing happens
Re: check mail function not working
I am unable to confirm what you have described (everything seems to work as expected).
I did a right-click on the POP Peeper tray icon and selected "Check mail" from the context menu list and POP Peeper did a Mail Check and the icon did display the blue envelope with waving red flag once the new message(s) were retrieved by POP Peeper. Would you please describe in more detail what it is you are doing to get a "Mail Check" and provide more details as to what occurs. Do you observe the rolling eyes in the icon if you do a Mail Check and do new messages actually arrive? If POP Peeper does not retrieve any messages then you will not see the blue envelope with waving red flag but instead just the yellow envelope will display.
Are these your settings in the PP Tray Icon window? ("Tools" > "Options", "Tray Icon" tab):

Re: check mail function not working
If pressing "check mail" doesn't appear to do anything, it may depend on the types of accounts you have. For example, IMAP accounts in the IDLE state won't react to a checkmail since they're already in a state that will notify you of new email instantly. If you really want such an account to "do something" so that you can verify it -- right-click on that account and select "check mail"; this will (temporarily) take the account out of IDLE and perform a regular check mail. Watching POP Peeper's status bar is generally more responsive than watching for the eyes moving in the tray icon (although, perhaps check that the option isn't disabled per lakrsrool's suggestion).
As for the tray icon reporting new email --
Possible explanation: the icon won't indicate new mail if the main window is open.

Re: check mail function not working
yes, that is what it was..... the general account setting is for imap, the send setting is smtp, by unchecking the IDLE/push box, ppeeper will operate as I remember and as you described.
So all is good, but I do have a question, when in the edit account mode and in the general window, on the bottom there is 'enabled' 'password protected' and then the 'IDLE/push... what is checked there is 'enabled' and 'idle/push' what is the enabled check box for and or do??

Re: check mail function not working
The "Enabled" check box at the lower-left of the Edit account interface enables (checked) or disables (unchecked) the account for doing Auto Checks ("Polling interval" scheduled Mail Checks) on that specific account. If you uncheck this box then when the Auto Check occurs the account will be skipped (not have an Auto Check done).garalare wrote:.... but I do have a question, when in the edit account mode and in the general window, on the bottom there is 'enabled' 'password protected' and then the 'IDLE/push... what is checked there is 'enabled' and 'idle/push' what is the enabled check box for and or do??
For example, if you go to "Accounts" and click on "Show enabled checkbox" to enable this option from the main POP Peeper menu you will see check marks in front of all the accounts in the left account pane that have this "Enabled" box checked for each account and if the "Enabled box is unchecked then there will be no check which would mean this account is not "Enabled" and will not do an Auto Check when the "Polling interval" scheduled Mail Check occurs.
For example: Account is now disabled (Auto check will not be done for this account) Account does not have check mark (in the "enabled checkbox" column of main interface) when account is disabled for Auto Checks (if you check this box here in this column to enable the account then the check box in the Edit account interface, illustrated above, will then be checked again as well and the account will be enabled for Auto check)

Re: check mail function not working
garalare -- sorry for the confusion. lakrsrool already explained the "enabled" checkbox, so I'll clarify what the "idle/push" option does.
When you have idle/push enabled, POP Peeper will remain connected to the server and the server will "push" a notification when you receive new email. The result is that you get instant notification of new email. Because of this, there is no need for POP Peeper to perform the regular check mail routine, and that's why accounts that are in the IDLE state are skipped when the check mail occurs.
So, the recommendation is that you enable "idle/push". You'll get instant notification of new email and other actions (e.g. if you need to retrieve a message) will also be much faster because POP Peeper is already logged in.
