I finally found out what was causing all my problems on my desktop computer. It was the AVG Antivirus. I tried putting a PP exception into AVG, but that didn't work. So I have uninstalled AVG completely and PP is now working AOK. The strange thing is that AVG only caused a problem with PP on the desktop so I have to assume there is some other setting somewhere coupled with AVG on the desktop that I don't have on the laptop that was causing the problem.

So, for the time being I'm just using Windows Defender Antivirus on the desktop until I find another good A/V program that won't screw up PP.

Glad you found the culprit. My guess is that AVG takes a little more time to initialize when it wakes up and so nothing is allowed through until it's ready.
