More than likely, one of the data files is corrupt. The most straight-forward solution is to delete the message files and allow POP Peeper to re-sync them:
1) Make sure that POP Peeper isn't running: Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc), go to the "Details" tab and look for poppeeper.exe. Since PP crashes, PP shouldn't be running, so if Task manager shows an instance of poppeeper.exe, that's very likely why the problem occurred in the first place (ie. multiple instances of POP Peeper running can cause this)

2) Open File Explorer to where POP Peeper stores the data files. Since you can't open PP to get this, the default location is:
%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\POP Peeper\

3) Search for data.db
- this will find a result for each account that you have

4) Delete each instance of data.db

5) Start POP Peeper

You've described your issue as the "same hang" -- do you mean to say you are getting an error opening Poppeeeper.exe as reported in this topic? Please explain in more detail what you are getting and what you've done.

Can you describe what POP Peeper is doing when it crashes? ie. is it checking email, and is there a particular account that seems to cause the problem?

Also, please do the following, if you're able to access the main interface before it crashes:
1) main menu: File / Error overview
1a) Press "Web Test" and then close that window after the results (don't close the Error overview window) [NEW]
2) Press the "Copy Log" button
3) Use Paste in your reply to include the information

Hi,
Thanks for your reply,
PP doesn't do nothing, but I observed that error come after 5 minutes.
I use a PP polling interval (15 minutes), each time when hang, left timer was around 10
Error overview is empty

digging, I deactivate pooling and check mail on startup, and still hang after 5 minutes...

Please do the steps Jeff requested even if the Error Overview window is empty.
From the main menu - Please go to "File" > "Overview..." then Click on the "Copy Log" click the "OK" on the next dialog and close the Error Overview window. Then paste (right-click "Paste") that information here in this topic on your next reply. Thanks.

When you say "each time when hang" - are you saying that PP is unresponsive or crashes? If unresponsive is your entire computer the same, that is totally "unresponsive" or just PP? What message (if any) do you get from Windows when this happens?

What Operating System (OS) are you using?

What is your Internet Service Provider (ISP)?

What security software are you using (i.e. Firewall, AV program etc)?

In addition to the "copy log" procedure before -- please do the "web test" immediately before the "copy log" to include those results.

I don't know if this is the problem or not (it shouldn't be, and never has in the past, but new version...), but this is definitely a problem:
Data folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\POP Peeper\data\

Try copying:
C:\Program Files (x86)\POP Peeper\
to another folder outside of "Program Files" such as:
C:\POP Peeper\
and then run:
C:\POP Peeper\POPPeeper.exe
and see if that still causes the problem.

Dear Jeff,
I do your recommendations, install PP on C:\pop peeper, and Ini file inside this folder.
And Works, no more error of runtime library.
I can live with that...
Thanks

Ok, glad to hear it. If you want to try to try to move PP back to a normal installation, here's what you can do:

0) Just to be safe, make a backup of your C:\POP Peeper\ folder (simple copy/paste on the folder should be sufficient)

1) main menu: Tools / Options
2) Select the "Storage" page
3) Clear the value for "data path"
4) Double the text "Ini Location" (this will open File Explorer, keep this for later)
5) Press OK; POP Peeper will move the data files
6) Exit POP Peeper
7) Move the ini file that was selected in step #4 and MOVE it to the new data folder:
%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\POP Peeper
8) Restart POP Peeper

If all went well, all your accounts and messages should remain; I'd also go to Tools / Options / Storage and confirm that both "ini location" and "data path" now show as being in the AppData\Roaming\POP Peeper\ folder.
