Suggestion: Do not notify of new mail for certain accounts

Post by Mayhem »

It is possible to add an option in the account settings, so if that account receives new mail, there are no notification whatsoever? (no audible bell, popup or tray icon animation).

I have a Gmail account that receives mail from various places all day long. I still would like to get the emails on the regular mail check intervals, but just not be notified of any new mail for that account.

There are ways to have different polling intervals and sound for specific accounts (but I'm not aware of anyway to have an account actually poll for messages but not have any kind of alert of any kind when messages are retrieved by POP Peeper).

If you wanted a less noticeable sound and/or different intervals of polling (for a specific account) you can do the following:
1) Make sure that you have "Advanced" functions enabled - from main menu go to Tools/Options/General and check the "Advanced" option box to enable "Advanced" functions.
2) Edit the specific account and select "Advanced" where you can set unique message retrieval options specific to that account.

But you're still going to get some kind of alert when messages are retrieved by POP Peeper - what happens or how often messages are retrieved will vary as contrasted to your other accounts is all (of course if you're using the "IMAP" protocol for an account with "PUSH/Idle" enabled then messages [get pushed to PP] will arrive in the POP Peeper Inbox as of the time the message reaches the Email accounts Server).

An FYI (this isn't exactly what your asking about) - by going to Tools/Options/Notification - you can change the way POP Peeper notifies based on types of messages among other things.

But all that said, as far as I am aware - if POP Peeper retrieves a message an alert of some kind will occur (depending upon various alert options used) - so what occurs can vary in different ways (but something will occur). If I'm correct that what what your asking for (retrieving of messages absent any notification of any kind) isn't possible then this might be something to consider adding to POP Peeper (which would be up to Jeff, the POP Peeper developer).

You can suppress new mail alerts by creating a rule. Any number of accounts can be added to a single rule to "ignore" messages:

1) From POP Peeper's main menu: Tools / AntiJunk / Rules
2) Press the "Add" button on the toolbar (make sure you're viewing the "Rules" page on the left)
3) Give it a name, like "Ignore accounts"
4) In the first dropdown box, select "+Account"
5) In the text field to the right of "Is in list", add comma-separated account names
6) On the bottom-left, change the option to "Perform Actions"
7) Tick the box for "Ignore"

The following snipped can be copied and then pasted into a new rule (e.g. after step #2 above, instead of steps 3-7 simply select Edit/Paste Rule Set from the menu). After pasting, change "AccountName" accordingly.

Code: Select all

[Rules]
Ignore Accounts_Action = 2 8 0 "" "" 0 16777215 ""
Ignore Accounts_Rule00 = 0 0 9 "+Account" 0 "AccountName"
Ignore Accounts_Status =
