setting up

Post by darkgohan » Mon Feb 10, 2014 3:21 pm

I am new here, and have just downloaded the latest version of pop peeper. I followed the wizard, but now get a warning saying the email client failed the system cannot find the file specified. I have no idea what this is,having thought the wizard took care of everything. I was using gmail notifier??? thank you :(

Some versions of Windows do not have a default email client. It sounds like you probably just want to open gmail.com as your email client, so to do that:
1) On the main menu of POP Peeper, select Tools / Options
2) Select the 'General' page
3) For the "email client" click the little arrow on the right-side and select "URL..."
4) Set the value to:
http://www.gmail.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
5) Press OK and OK again to save

Thank you,but after I do the url thing this takes me to pop peepers, but it does not allow me to view.send or absolutely nothing? If I click on the url you provided it takes me directly to my inbox. I am looking to replace the now defunct gmail notifier. Is this not possible with pop peeper? :?

POP Peeper is not a direct replacement for gmail notifier and so some things may be done differently. I've never used gmail notifier so I don't know the exact behavior that you're expecting, but you can view and send email directly from POP Peeper's interface. The URL action I mentioned in my first reply is just a quick way to access your gmail.com account.

One thing that you may be looking for is being able to send email when you click on a "mailto" link (e.g. in your webbrowser). POP Peeper v3 does not have this capability, but POP Peeper v4 does, which is currently in beta.

If you want to install the v4 beta, go here:
http://blog.mortaluniverse.com/?p=81

After you install v4, go to Tools / Options / General and enable "Register POP Peeper as Windows email client"

Yes, you can view and send email directly from POP Peeper. If there is something that you expect to happen or if something isn't working like you expect it to, then just ask -- try to be as specific as possible since I'm not familiar with the other program.

Also, if POP Peeper set your account up as "Server type = GMail" (edit the account and you'll see "server type" near the bottom of the general page) then I would suggest that you change it to use IMAP instead with the settings described here:
http://www.poppeeper.com/faq.php?q=GMailImap

GMail has been playing games with POP Peeper, so using Imap is the safer option for now. Using "GMail" may work for a while, but it may eventually cause "suspicious activity" until you login with your webbrowser. More info on that topic here:
