GMX is one of the most reliable email service in Europe (and the world). But the service was for only German speaking countries. Now it is open to all
https://www.gmx.com
It as 5 GB storage, free POP3, IMAP, and SMTP accesses, SSL, and spam protection. Webmail interface is very nice but slow, unless you live in Europe.

Is this related to GMX.NET? The site of GMX.NET used to be multilingual and then became just German (luckily, I've got my account before the change, but I do miss out being able to change settings).

Looks good. I just tried to create an account and got:
Error 30131 has occurred. Please try again later. We will try to fix the source of the error as soon as possible.
So... I guess I'll try again later.
Now a 30132 error. Stupid, cryptic error messages. </sarcasm>
Update : despite the error message, my account did get created.

POP3 server: pop.gmx.com
IMAP server: imap.gmx.com
SMTP server: mail.gmx.com, authentication required.
You can use standard ports or SSL ports if you enabled SSL.

So can I just use my GMX.NET username/password with the GMX.COM mail settings and/or webmail?

You can try it, but another user tried the same thing and was unsuccessful in logging in to new account.

war1,
Thanks for alerting us to gmx.
I just signed up and got the name I wanted.
I am using imap with idle and it's working great so far.
I also like the web interface although it is a little slow as you mentioned.
Thanks again.
