Advice asked for a good IMAP

Post by JRF »

Hi war1 , I got enthusiasm by your last minute comment about IMAP usage .

Could you please give me an orientation , on choosing a MSP reliable(for our mental health)+ POP3(for Outlook)+ IMAP(for PP)+ free(for my pocket) ? No need to have a gigantic storage .

Per your comments in the list http://www.poppeeper.com/Articles/mspchart.php , filtered bellow , SAFe-mail has the best service and smaller storage .

Do you think that BlueBottle service is better now? their storage is perfect for my needs .
EDIT : I just saw http://www.bluebottle.com/features.htm that IMAP is not available for free BlueBottle accounts , we should update the list ...

Any other updates ? TIA , JRF

Safemail will not work with Pop Peeper now because Safemail requires usage of SSL, and SSL IMAP is not available yet.

Bluebottle has disabled IMAP for free users.

My most free reliable email services and have IMAP are EUmx and Fusemail, both of which no longer accept new free users.

My recommendation would be VFEmail, which free service is relaible and has POP3 and IMAP. The only issue is that it has a low free storage and bandwidth. You can receive only 40 MB data per month.

I am testing Luarismail.info email service, but I do not know how reliable they will be.

Hi war1 , thank you for your reply , if there are any news , please forward .

1- VFEmail info I got just now (storage/bandwith) :

- for the Free account = 15/15
- there is a new plan = 100/150 = $15 lifetime
- the link for any new account gives NotFound=403

2- Google does not find anything for Luarismail .

Here is Luarismail

http://www.lunarismail.info/

You will be need to request the settings for POP3, IMAP, and SMTP after signup.

Loftmail and Pilumail also have IMAP and POP3 access, but no support when things go wrong.

Hi war1 , thanks again .

1- OK , now I got it , it is Lunarismail.info (lunar = ref. moon) , and not Luarismail . I did not sign up yet , sure it is free ? they do not say it anywhere .

2- I made a testdrive w/ Loftmail , very tech for the day to day , shows a bit heavy , depends on each one needs/taste .

In the Login you may choose the language , but it did not reflected my choise .

3- Also for Pilumail i am going to test later , 1GB seens to be temptable , also 100MB per email .

They say IMAP4 protocol is available , is it the same used for PP 3.0 ?

They are multilingual also , and it worked for my new account request screen .

This may be useful to you : the best link to enter there is http://mail.pilu.com/WorldClient.dll?View=Main , where the last box Crear Cuenta means Create an Account .

1. Yes, Lunarismail is free. I knew I was going to mispell this unmemorable domain name.

3. IMAP4 is IMAP. "4" refers to revision number. The common usage is POP3 (There was a POP2 and is a POP4) and IMAP, even though most means IMAP4.

POP means different things to different people. Gmail refers to their POP3 access as POP. But POP also means an account like Yahoo internally polling other POP3 accounts.

Thank you war1 for those links , from where I analyzed the free services , made tests , and

1- decided to use inMail24.com (IMAP & Idle) + PP , I am using it , since 01Nov2006 , without problems . I have also tested POP3 , and SMTP .

Other details about inMail24 :
-- a clean interface to register and to operate (only English)
-- support by email (they answered me in 1 day)
-- 16MB storage
-- Web, POP3, IMAP4
-- anti-virus
-- configurable anti-spam
-- filters
-- folders
-- forwarding , auto-answer , announcement , aliases , etc

Other tips for the PP account inMail24 :
-- the Email Address and the Login Name shall have the full address (xxx@inMail24.com)
-- SMTP server = Requires Authentication
-- the server names are imap4 | pop3 | smtp .inMail24.com

==============================================

2- bad new : Pilu.com died , after a brave resistance (it may still work sporadically , on working days only)

JRF,

1. Glad you like inMail24.com. IT is pretty reliable. Storage space is a little low, and IDLE does not work with Pop Peeper.

2. Pilumail webmail still is accessible. I like the WorldClient interface. But POP3 and IMAP is slow and know dead. It worked once in awhile on standard ports 110 and 143, but not now.

war1-- FYI , about m2x.eu

After a long period providing irregular services , they sent an email :

-- they will stop the free service at 07.Dec.2006 .
-- they offer ad-free service plans $EUR/year = $ 5 (1GB) , and $ 10 (2GB) .

EDIT : By now both access protocols are working very badly : Imap(port 144) and Pop3(port 115) .

(update : 05 Dec 2007)

Hi war1 , this is a review for the information on above posts about @inMail24.com :

-- now with 100 MB .
-- IMAP is SSL , now accepts IDLE (working fine with PP) .
-- POP3 is optionally SSL .
-- SMTP is SSL .

Other details about inMail24 :

-- a clean interface (only English)
-- support by email
-- anti-virus , configurable anti-spam , filters
-- folders , forwarding , auto-answer , announcement , aliases , etc

Tips for the PP account :

-- the boxes Email-Address and Login-Name shall have the full address (xxx@inMail24.com) .
-- IMAP server uses SSL via Port=993 , and accepts IDLE (for instantly notification) .
-- POP3 server may use SSL (recommended) via Port=995 , or no-SSL via Port=110 .
-- SMTP server uses SSL via Port=465 , and Requires Authentication .
-- server names : imap4.inMail24.com , pop3.inMail24.com , smtp.inMail24.com

Thanks for the update, JRF! I have not used Inmail4, but it has tested reliably. I should use it more.
