Have you tried to log-in to the Gmail account on the web using your web browser to determine if you can log-in and to also see what message you might be getting from Gmail?

The POP Peeper error message from Gmail says "Web login required" with an adjoining link; clicking this Gmail link provides additional information and various optional steps outlined on the Google Support web page that can be taken to help resolve the issue.

Bottom line is that most likely enabling "Less secure apps" will solve your problem, to simplify what probably needs to be done, just click on this link: https://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureapps and select "Turn on" to enable "less secure apps" and then Check Mail in POP Peeper for this account to see if this solves the problem (btw, do not be concerned about the Gmail warning, I use this setting myself for all Gmail accounts which helps avoid log-in problems).

Yup, ran into the gmail thingy with my latest account that I just added to PP. I'm wondering IF ... there are options to make the way PP is checking in on the mail that are less unsecure, as from the server's perspective? Would IMAP be preferred over the GMAIL setting? I initially had IMAP (which I thought might be better for this situation and use it on my other account) and that is the one it barked about. I switched things over for the new account to use the GMAIL setting instead for server type.

 Any thoughts on this, Jeff, or others in the know on this topic? Is this just a losing battle with Alphabet and Google because PP is an outsider and not part of the empire? :?:

POP Peeper v4.2 supports OAuth2, which negates the need to enable the "less secure apps" setting. However, OAuth2 is only supported for Imap. Imap has plenty of advantages over both POP3 and WebMail so you can add that to the list (read sync, generally faster, idle/push, ...). WebMail for GMail (server type = "gmail") should only be used as a last resort.

If you don't already have v4.2:

Thanks for the tip on the OAuth2 re-authentication.
Apparently I had typed the password incorrect the first round (not knowing it) so I used my other Gmail account for authorization. #-o It took that as valid but when PP went to check the mail, I was rejected again because PP was presenting one ID/authorization and Gmail wanted something different. I removed the OAuth2 credentials completely and entered them back in (typing correctly this round!) and my new Gmail account now works fine with IMAP. =D>
