deleting email of outlook web browser
deleting email of outlook web browser
Sorry if this has been covered before but my father has had pop peeper for years and loves it but he recently switched to outlook as his new email addy and when he deletes his outlook email of pop peeper it deletes it off of the outlook.com web browser site. He wants to keep the emails on the outlook.com but only delete the email off of pop peeper. Is there anyway to configure pop peeper so that when he deletes the email off of pop peeper it doesn't delete the email off of outlook.com. any help would be much appreciated. Thank you
Re: deleting email of outlook web browser
Welcome to the forum edward D,
While waiting on other members of the Esumsoft Team to reply I have a few questions in regards to what you are asking (of which I am not aware of any method to do this which as explained below would seem to me to be problematic and at best create confusion).
Are you saying that since switching to Outlook.com that POP Peeper is doing something different than before in regards to deleted messages (keeping in mind the Email Client change you mentioned i.e. switch to Outlook and the years your father has used POP Peeper)?
I ask because no matter which Email Client is used POP Peeper will work in the same manner which is to say that deleted messages will work the same way so in your fathers case POP Peeper should not be any different than before regardless of what Email Client is used.
I say this because the object of POP Peeper is to reflect what exists in the Email Client (Yahoo, Gmail, Outlook.com etc etc), so if messages are deleted in either POP Peeper and/or the Email Client on the web then both POP Peeper and the Email Client will and should reflect the same thing.
As to the desire to leave deleted messages on POP Peeper that would otherwise be deleted on the Email Client (on the web) -- I'm wondering why would your father want this? If this were the case you can imagine how over time the POP Peeper inbox would become confusing because there would be no way to know via POP Peeper what messages are actually deleted in the Email Client and also the POP Peeper inbox would end up over time comprised of a very large number of messages which would presumably need an additional function to ultimately at some point delete these exclusive POP Peeper messages that are independent of the "deleted" messages in the Email Client on the web which I think you can see would be impractical to say the least and certainly cause a great deal of confusion.
So from my perspective this is simply not something that would be practical and/or not meet the purpose of POP Peeper which is to reflect what exists on an Email Client.
I would suggest that if your father wants to keep a record of some or all the messages he deletes that he move those messages from his inbox into an archive folder so that the messages would then no longer exist in the inbox but could always be accessed via the archive folder. Please post back if this approach would address the question you have asked? (other Esumsoft team members may have other ideas/suggestions).

Re: deleting email of outlook web browser
I, too, would be curious to know what the previous email domain was that behaved differently. It wouldn't surprise me if it was gmail and you were possibly using POP3 in PP to access it? Gmail does some abnormal things with POP3.
As for solutions, lakrsrool's suggestions are good -- simply move the messages to another folder instead of deleting them. If you have POP Peeper Pro then you can tell POP Peeper to moves messages to another folder *instead* of the trash folder, and this may be the most practical solution:
1) Enable Advanced Options (main menu: Tools / Options / General ["Advanced options" on top-right])
2) Edit the account
3) Select the "Advanced 2" page
4) Press the "Folders" button next to the "Delete to folder" and select the folder you want to use
5) Please first test that this feature works as you expect by using it on a test message

Re: deleting email of outlook web browser
Oh, one other possibility that I forgot to mention -- you can tell POP Peeper to "hide" messages. This would effectively "delete" the message from POP Peeper while the message still remains on the server. If your father uses the keyboard to delete, you could actually reassign the "delete" key so that it hides it instead. Otherwise.... ah, there's not a toolbar button available for "hide." Well, it could still be done (ie. you can still add a "hide" button to the toolbar), it's just going to be a little more work. So before I delve into that, let me know if this method would even be practical for you.
If you want to "hide" a message just to see how it behaves:
when viewing a message, from the menu select: Message / Mark as -> hidden
when viewing from the message list, right-click on a message and select Mark as -> hidden
To display hidden messages (in case you need to un-hide them): main menu: Messages / (disable) hide hidden messages
Messages marked as hidden will be displayed in italics.

Re: deleting email of outlook web browser
thanks for the awesome suggestions. I'm gonna try them when I get to his computer.
Let me try to explain better =) my father had earthlink email and when he would delete that email off pop peeper it would stay on windows live email. He now has switched to outlook and uses the outlook website www.outlook.com to check his emails. So he no longer uses earthlink or window live email to check his email. when he deletes an email off of pop peeper it also deletes it off of www.outlook.com. So I was wondering if there was a way to delete the email off of pop peeper and have it say on www.outlook.com. Hope that explains it better. Sorry for the confusion. And once again thanks for all the help.

Re: deleting email of outlook web browser
Oh, OK, that makes more sense now
The key distinction is not so much the change in email address, but the switch from using an email client (Windows Live Mail) to using the web interface (outlook.com). Windows Live Mail will permanently save the email on your computer, so it doesn't matter if the emails have been deleted from the server. Outlook.com, on the other hand, will only show you what's on the server; so when PP deletes email, it's deleting it from the server and the messages will no longer be listed on outlook.com.
Anyway, hopefully you can find something that works. If not, please let us know as we may still be able to help.

deleting email of outlook 2016
hey guys back again. Sorry for the long await =)
I posted several months ago about my father changing to outlook.com as his email address and getting rid of widnows live. and when he deleted messages off of pop peeper it deleted them off of www.outlook.com and when he had windows live an a different email addy it stayed on windows live. Well I finally had him download office 365 and use outlook 2016. But when I delete emails off of pop peeper it deletes them also off of outlook 2016. Is there a way to set up outlook 2016 to be like windows live and not have them delete off of outlook 2016 and stay on outlook even when deleted off of pop peeper. Any help would be appreciated cause he is going crazy with this. He's likes his emails to stay on his email client (outlook 2016) but luvs pop peeper and wants to have that as well and not be cluttered with emails... Sorry for the long post... Parents am I right

Re: deleting email of outlook web browser
Hi edward D,
As has been discussed the intended purpose of POP Peeper is to directly reflect exactly what exists in an Email Clients and/or Webmails Inbox. That said, we have pointed out that one option would be to create an archive folder to keep messages in MS Outlook 2016 for future reference.
Another option that I think will do what you want would be to do the following for an account using POP3: Open MS Outlook 2016 and then go to "File" > "Account settings" select your POP3 account > "Change…" button > "More Settings…" button > "Advanced" tab.
In the Advanced tab interface select the option as outlined below in the screen-shot and click "OK" to save the change to the account:

Re: deleting email of outlook web browser
Also: make sure that Outlook2016 is using POP3 instead of IMAP. The "IMAP" protocol is generally used when you want all your clients to sync, which doesn't sound like what you want. If you use POP3 in Outlook2016, then it will permanently store the messages. However, I might disagree with lakrsrool as to whether the "leave messages on server" should be enabled or not. If you disable it, then anytime you use Outlook2016 to download the messages, you'll start with a clean slate in POP Peeper (ie. PP will remove all the messages that have been deleted from the server) and you'll still have the messages stored in Outlook2016.
Re: deleting email of outlook web browser
^ I may be wrong here, but I was thinking in terms of using the "leaving messages on server" option in MS Outlook in the event that PP happened to be used to delete a message on a specific accounts server prior to when MS Outlook might have been used to check messages on that same specific accounts server. Wouldn't PP in this scenario remove the (deleted) message from the specific accounts server prior to when MS Outlook would have otherwise retrieved the specific message if it were not previously deleted by PP (in which case that specific message -- no longer on the server -- would presumably not get retrieved by MS Outlook)?
Addendum: Oh btw, it just crossed my mind that even if I'm wrong on this -- I personally use the option because I have multiple Email Clients and want make sure that they all retrieve the POP3 messages (which may not be the case here of course).

Re: deleting email of outlook web browser
If POP Peeper deletes a message from the server before Outlook2016 retrieves it, then the setting in Outlook2016 will have no effect on that scenario.
Here is the traditional method of using POP Peeper with an email client:
1) POP Peeper is running all the time, email client is not
2) PP notifies of new message
3) Open email client
4) Email client downloads the messages and deletes the messages from the server
5) POP Peeper sees all messages have been deleted and clears its list
6) Close email client
For this to work, the email client settings are:
- server is accessed via POP3
- Leave messages on server = Disabled
- Check for new mail when client starts = enabled
- Periodically check for new mail every x minutes = disabled
Most email clients used to default "Leave messages on server" to disabled, but at some point they started leaving messages on the server (and maybe deleting after 2 weeks or something). It's really a judgment call. HOWEVER -- if the client is set to leave messages on the server and PP deletes a message, it's unpredictable what the client may do -- it may see that the message was deleted outside and decide to delete it; or it may keep it. So if you leave messages on the server, this is the first thing that you should test.

Re: deleting email of outlook web browser
So to clarify the bottom line; as long as the account(s) in MS Outlook2016 simply use the POP3 server type then edward D will get the result desired.
