Earlier this month, Lycos officially discontinued its free email service:

As of the next webmail plugin (or POP Peeper v5.0), Lycos WebMail support will be removed. For Lycos-premium subscribers, you can still access your email with POP Peeper using IMAP or POP3 (IMAP is recommended) -- edit your Lycos account and change the "server type" to IMAP (or POP3).
