Persistent junk mail

Post by norcal »

Can Pop-peeper pro delete confirmed junk mail automatically, that is, before notifying me that there is a message in my inbox? Pop-peeper does highlight the junk mail notification in red. Can it do more?

Welcome to the forum norcal,

To answer your question, yes, absolutely POP Peeper (Pro) can do more; including specifically the deletion of Junk Mail (SPAM messages) - actually you can do quite a lot using AntiJunk "Rule Sets".

To start out, here is a video on how POP Peeper Pro AntiJunk works. (To address your question specifically look for "advantages of AntiJunk" at around the 2 minute mark of the video and the 4 minute mark as far as dealing with "Rule Sets"). Moreover, on this same (video) location on the page, by scrolling down further you will see the "Rules Wizard" discussed (of which I will touch on a bit further down).

Also, here is a topic (of which you will find other topics in the forum as well) specifically discussing (some of the intricacies) of Deleting Spam (Note: I have linked to where Jeff replied to the topic - you can scroll up the topic to get background details of the topic discussed).

And another topic that may be helpful that you can take a look at as well: Create a rule for specific spam.

Example screen-shot (referencing "actions" settings available - including the optional "Delete" action you asked about):
Note all of the actions that can be assigned to a specific &quot;Rule Set&quot; (in this case SPAM messages AntiJunk rule). <br />(FYI: Clicking on the image will enlarge the screen-shot for improved readability - use the browser back-arrow to return to the topic if you do this)
Note all of the actions that can be assigned to a specific "Rule Set" (in this case SPAM messages AntiJunk rule).

Other members of the Esumsoft Team will perhaps provide additional comments as well on the subject (of deleting SPAM).

I would add, in regards to the "Rules Wizard" referenced above - this process is an easy way to start your Junk Message (SPAM) set of rules (as illustrated in the former screen-shot above). The process starts out with this dialog:
Continue from here to step through the process of creating a &quot;Rule Set&quot;.
Continue from here to step through the process of creating a "Rule Set".
Rule Wizard starts out with.png (9.05 KiB) Viewed 3314 times
of which you would then continue on with the ensuing steps to create an initial "Junk" (SPAM) mail "Rule Set" of which can then be added additional applicable "Junk" mail rules as needed via the AntiJunk Interface (as illustrated in the first screen-shot above). The "Rule Wizard" can be accessed via the respective button on either the Main Toolbar or Message Toolbar (if you've added it there) as well as in any of the various AntiJunk Interfaces that can be directly accessed via the main POP Peeper menu items: "Tools" > "AntiJunk / Rules" and then selecting either the "Main interface..." or the "Rules..." options.

Also, for those that may be new to POP Peeper, we recommend taking a look at the following topic that includes helpful information for new forum members: Information for new users and forum members. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know.

If you're confident that PP is evaluating your messages correctly you can set PP to delete all messages it considered junk instead of just applying it to individual rules/filters.

1) From POP Peeper's main menu, select Tools / AntiJunk -> Settings
2) Select the "Actions" page
3) In the "Actions if Junk" section, tick the "delete" checkbox

There are other relevant settings on this page that you may find useful. Specifically, the "delete if junk and score is at least" value. If you bump this up (e.g. to '2'), you decrease the odds of deleting a legitimate mail, but also decrease the chance of deleting Junk.

You may want to allow PP to save junk messages that it deletes, just so that you have a copy in case it deletes something incorrectly:
main menu: Tools / Options / Storage; "Save junk messages when deleted"

An alternative is to add and use the "delete junk" button to the main toolbar (main menu: View / Customize toolbar) instead of auto-deleting. This allows you to still review the messages first, but then provides a more simplified approach to deleting them.
