Is this normal (Bad Connection Error)

Post by ata »

I just noticed this since upgrading to 5.5.3.
So far it only happens with Firefox and I'm on a financial site. During this this if PP checks accounts for new emails, it throws a Bad connection for all accounts. Is this normal?
BTW: When I close the financial site, PP works normally.

I ask this as some of these sites, send a security code for access.

Not normal and not expected. A "bad connection" means that it can't make a connection to the email port and email ports and webbrowser ports are completely different. Further, the fact that it's specific to a "financial" site should be irrelevant -- virtually every website nowadays uses a similar type of security as a bank site (ie. SSL certificates, which shouldn't affect PP anyway).

The only thing I can think of is maybe you have a 3rd party program that does this for security reasons (ie. block all other ports when a connection to whatever.com is detected to prevent snooping)?

Is this something that can be repeated?

I'd probably try rebooting the computer.

I found out what is causing this. My cable company security suite just recently up dated. It blocks everything except t
the "financial" site that you are on until you close it to prevent snooping, thus blocking PP to connect or receive anything.
Thank you for pointing me to other causes. It was just strange that it happened at the same time as PP update.

I have to admit, mine was just a complete guess and I've never actually heard anything like that before...

Out of curiosity, what security suite is it?

It was just strange that it happened at the same time as PP update.
If I had a nickel... :D
