Hi Jeff,
Long time PP user. The machine I use it on is:
Processor 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-12900KS 3.42 GHz
Installed RAM 32.0 GB
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Edition Windows 11 Pro
Version 23H2
OS build 22631.4460
During October, so after the September updates PP would hang. Not respond. Then either close altogether or I would have to stop it and restart it. Happening more frequently as of late I started poking around and found the Microsoft-Windows-EnhancedPhishingProtection-Events -- Verdict PasswordReuse in the Windows System Events. Microsoft does not allow you to configure Defender or see the log where this is easily identified. This being the first appcrash I've looked for on 11 my old dependable Nirsoft tool appcrashview opens to nothing. Rusty I can't remember how to find the TID. The only other items I can find are Events>> EnhancedPhishingProtection-Events / Aggregated Threat assessment of current system instance as mentioned above, Verdict PasswordReuse in the details. In the WinApp log before it shows poppeeper stopped unexpectedly I see >> Faulting application path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\dwm.exe stopped. Tonight between these events I got this >>The Desktop Window Manager process has exited. (Process exit code: 0x8898009b, Restart count: 1, Primary display device ID: VMware SVGA 3D). I assume it has to be related but why is it effecting Poppeeper and nothing else?
Dependent on Microsoft OS protection I do not wish to disable it. Can it be configured? At the very least a log to show what it triggered on the logs for defender are blank. Can I turn on a log in poppeeper? A tool that might extract data?
I thought possibly PP was too big and deleted years of messages from multple accounts. I really regret that. Within a day I was looking for a site I used a long time ago and the search came up blank because I deleted the messages. Poppeeper folder size is still over 4GB.
Thanks,
TPecka
Defender locking Poppeeper?
Re: Defender locking Poppeeper?
It would be better if we moved this discussion to email since I'll need to request logs, etc, since you have an older forum account, I'm not going to assume that your forum email address is up-to-date, so if you can respond to (support at esumsoft dot com).
1) What makes you think the problem is related to Defender? Those phishing messages are probably not related to PP, more likely these reports come from accounts that you're using in Windows itself (and/or Edge and other MS products).
2) Are you running this in a Virtual Machine (ie. reference to "VMware SVGA 3D")?
3) What version of POP Peeper are you using (main menu: Help / About)?
Moving messages to a different folder (that PP doesn't monitor) is a good solution if you don't want to delete the messages. You may want to look in the Trash folder and see if you can still recover them; most email providers will auto-delete messages in the trash after 30 days. The PP database files won't compact immediately.
Please reply via email if possible.
