You may want to review this topic Windows Live Hotmail using POP3 (creating a PP account)

Obs. : the SMTP specification is supposed to use other settings than the above .

JRF, SMTP port 25 works. Have you tried it?

war1 , thanks for questioning .

When I was collecting the information to write the topic Windows Live Hotmail using POP3 (creating a PP account) I noticed many complaints about port 25 , as well as positive indications to use SMTP TLS with port 587 . (I *think* I saw a comment on this also in the link you gave as reference) .

Besides , my topic was posted in 15 Feb 2009 , and until now there was no problem reported by PP users , so I had not reason to research deeper .

The purpose , however , to ask you to review the topic Windows Live Hotmail using POP3 (creating a PP account) , was that it is adapted for PP requirements/conditions/operation , and has been updated according to feedback received from PP users in the related Comments/Suggestions about PP-Hotmail(POP3) .

(in fact this our talk should be inside that Comments/Suggestions topic) .

Windows Live SMTP port 25 works with TLS, not without. the security setting. I think it will work with SSL and port 465, but I have not tested.

Many ISPs have started blocking access to external smtp servers on port 25, and 587 is usually the equivalent port to use instead.

Jeff,

It is not as if port 25 does not work. It works for many users. And some ISP have begun blocking port 587.

I did not mean to imply that 25 wouldn't work, just that won't work for everyone and that it seems to be a growing trend (and I may be saying that only because my own ISP [Comcast] started blocking it a few months ago). For ISPs that block port 25, they usually allow port 587. I don't know anything about ISPs that completely block access to external SMTPs, though. I know I would be very upset if I couldn't... I was upset enough when port 25 stopped working all of a sudden (my own fault, I don't bother reading anything from my ISP).
