Hi Jeff,

In the past few month I often get some strange characters in messages.
My default view is HTML, but it happens in other views as well.
No problem when viewing them in the browser.

Win 7, IE 8 installed.

The squares are typically the result of NON-Printable character codes, when this occurs these boxes are what gets displayed.

First try looking at this: In the main interface menu go to "PPtweaker" > "Misc2" --- if "Display encoded charsets with HTML renderer" is not checked then try checking this and see if this helps.

If this was already checked or doesn't help have you tried the "Plain Text" setting? ("Tools" > "Options" > "View Messages" in Main menu).

Have you tried rebooting to see if this helps?

In this particular message, those characters are not displayed at all when viewing it in the browser.
I can't remember now the case in other messages (i.e existing characters displayed wrongly, or some apparently "out of the blue" characters are inserted).

"Display encoded charsets with HTML renderer" is checked.
The problem exists In "Plain Text" view as well; the characters are different though.
Rebooting does not help.

I suspect it might have to do with IE 8 is installed on my machine (Clear Type issues). Just a long shot.

I have no idea whether this would actually apply in your case but if your problem persists you might take a look at this: Setting "non-Unicode Programs" - Windows 7 (this example involves Japanese but the concept is the same presumably and may perhaps apply in your specific case).

Beyond this hopefully Jeff will have some ideas to consider.
