Can't access hotmail

Post by trev »

As of today - 13/11/15 - PP won't access any of my Hotmail accounts. The various explanations are listed below.

[1000: IMAP] ['imap-mail.outlook.com' (993) SSL: 1] [Smtp: 'smtp-mail.outlook.com' (587) SSL: 2]
Error (Select Command is not permitted in current state NotAuthenticatedServerError)

[1000: IMAP] ['imap-mail.outlook.com' (993) SSL: 1] [Smtp: 'smtp-mail.outlook.com' (587) SSL: 2]
Error (Select Command is not permitted in current state NotAuthenticatedServerError)

[0: POP3] ['pop3.live.com' (995) SSL: 1] [Smtp: 'smtp.live.com' (587) SSL: 2]
Login Error (authentication server unavailable, please try later)

[1000: IMAP] ['imap-mail.outlook.com' (993) SSL: 1] [Smtp: 'smtp-mail.outlook.com' (587) SSL: 2]
Error (Select Command is not permitted in current state NotAuthenticatedServerError)

I can access the accounts directly, but PP can't. Help please, or is this just me...?

Hi trev,

As of this time I am not getting any Hotmail errors in any of my 9 accounts. These errors, when they occur, tend to get resolved by the time the next "Mail Check" is done by Pop Peeper and of course they may also return at some point later on as well.

What is important to note is that these errors that will on occasion occur are errors on the Email Client side (that are generated by the Email Client, in this case "Hotmail") and NOT directly caused by PP and for the most part will generally clear by the next PP "Mail check". As such (Client side errors) there is not really anything that can be done about these "Hotmail" generated errors or any Yahoo generated errors of this type that may occur for that matter and are generally the result of random anomalies that may occur during the Client/Server Interface most often caused by temporary Email Client server issues.

A post by Jeff explaining in detail about some of these type of errors when about 9 weeks ago Hotmail was experiencing a lot of issues for a period of time can be see by CLICKING HERE

As of this time for myself Pop Peeper still continues to remain error free, have your errors or at least some of them been mitigated subsequent to additional Pop Peeper "Mail checks"?

No. I tried rechecking having had the earlier problem referred to.

Must have rechecked about a dozen times in the last couple of hours, to no effect other than the error messages sometimes cgange - add 'unknown host' to the above list!

Oddly one HM account does still work - but the other 4 don't.

Assuming the four accounts you initially posted are the accounts that continue to get errors (using IMAP and POP3 protocol), can you tell us what "Server type" (Hotmail/outlook, IMAP or POP3) is being used for the one Hotmail account that you have said is not getting the errors? (right/click on the account [that is working] in the account list in the left pane of the PP main interface and select "Edit" to find the "Server type" setting)

It's a POP3 that's working, the IMAP ones aren't.

earlier two POP3 ones were also not working, but both are now OK - most times anyway....

Ah. Now they are all working again.

Love to take the credit, but didn't do a thing. Don't you just love Hotmail :-((((((((

Glad to hear it. =D>

Different types of errors will typically be specific to the server protocol being used (IMAP, POP3, Hotmail/outlook etc) so even though these errors will crop up from time to time it is IMAP that still always remains the recommended protocol to use if at all possible. Click HERE for more information about this posted by Jeff at a time when Hotmail was experiencing an inordinate amount of server issues. (btw, Yahoo has certainly had their share of these types of problems as well)
