Runtime Errors

Post by stanyite »

Been using Pop Peeper for years. Recently began having runtime C++ errors and program shuts down. Tried installing older version and problem continues. Problem began intermittently before upgrading to ver. 4 then became more frequent after ver. 4 upgrade so I went back to ver. 3.8 and now program will load briefly, give the error message, then closes. Please help.

Sorry to hear about the problem. First, you'll have to re-install v4, as we won't be able to perform any useful troubleshooting with v3.

Can you tell what's happening when the crash occurs? For example:
1) Does it crash fairly consistently after you start PP?
2) Does it crash when it's checking mail?
3) Assuming that the crash does occur when it checks mail, instead of allowing it to check mail on its own, try this:
a) First, disable auto-check by pressing the green button on the bottom-right of the main PP window, it will turn red to indicate Auto-Check is disabled
b) Right-click on your first account and select "Check Mail" -- Wait for it to finish (or crash); if it doesn't crash, do the same with the next account and do so for each account until you find one that crashes
c) When/If you find one that crashes, is there any special about that account? e.g. Was it the very first account you tested (if so, try again on the 2nd account to see if it crashes or not)? Does that account have the most messages and/or very large messages? What type of account is it (edit the account and refer to the "server type" -- it may be IMAP or POP3 or Hotmail or GMail, etc.)
