No longer getting attachments (Yahoo Mail) since upgrade to 4.2

Ever since I upgraded to version 4.2 I'm no longer seeing attachments for yahoo mail. My default setting in Yahoo is basic email. I even tried switching it to "Switch to the newest Yahoo Mail" and that didn't help. The only way for me to see/get attachments is go login directly to Yahoo mail.

I'm using Windows 7 and IE 11.

I have Pop Peeper Webmail 4.2.1.0. Can I possibly get an old version of the DLL webmail until this is fixed?

Welcome to the forum jd55,

Using the current POP Peeper release, I am unable to duplicate your problem after doing several tests involving messages with attachments on Yahoo accounts using both Server type "Yahoo" and "IMAP".

Can you please provide us with more specifics on what you mean by "I'm no longer seeing attachments"?

I take it you are using Server type = "Yahoo" but just to make sure what is the "Server type" for these Yahoo accounts (i.e. IMAP, POP3, Yahoo)?

I am getting and seeing attachments as illustrated in the screenshots below in POP Peeper v4.2 and am using Windows 7 the same as you as well.

Opening a message in POP Peeper (View Message) I am seeing the attachment as illustrated in the message:
attachment test for Yahoo.png
Also messages with attachments are indicated in the Misc status column of the POP Peeper main interface:
attachment status in PP interface.png
Are you saying that you do not see the same thing as illustrated above in these screenshots?

I am probably not understanding exactly what the problem is you're having. Is the problem possibly involving attachments embedded in messages?

More details would be helpful.

Thanks

Thanks for your reply. Server type is Yahoo. I do have the Misc status columns you mentioned as shown below, but as you can see the attachments aren't showing up for yahoo accounts. And I've tested this on all my yahoo accounts by sending myself pdf files. All my gmail account attachments are showing up just fine though. I've also tried viewing in Rich Text and html mode and makes no differnce. Wonder if it's a dll issue? Happened right after the upgrade which included a new webmail dll update. I'd be happy to try the previous dll if it's available and see if that fixes the issue.

Update. I just tried switching Server type to Pop instead of Yahoo. That option then enabled my yahoo attachments to show in Pop Peeper, however, it also loaded all my spam mail too so I have since reverted it back to Yahoo server. Again, if it's available, I'd be happy to try out the previous dll to see if that fixes the issue in the short term.

I'm at a loss as to how there is a problem with the current Webmail plugin release as I've got version 4.2.1 and do not have any similar issues.

Just curious if you have tried exiting and restarting POP Peeper?

I've rebooted, uninstalled and reinstalled Pop Peeper. Do you know where I can download a previous version?

Hi jd55,

Your problem is indeed a puzzling one. Like lakrsrool, I've been performing tests with my own Yahoo IMAP and Webmail accounts using the same parameters/settings as you, on a WIN 7 computer. My results confirm what lakrsrool has reported to you, as I'm unable to reproduce the problem on my end either.

Reverting to a previous version of PP (or the .dll you mentioned), would likely be counter-productive. Lakrsrool has contacted Jeff about your issue, so he can further look into the attachment problem.

In the interim, while awaiting Jeff's review, please leave the settings in all your problematic Yahoo accounts (both in PP & on-line) as they currently are. Jeff may likely need additional information from you, when he stops by the Forums later on.

Thank you & best regards,

WebMail v4.2.2 fixes this problem. Go to Help / About and press "Check version" to download. For existing messages that you want to access attachments for, you'll need to tell POP Peeper to download them again: while viewing the message, select File / re-download; or for other options:
http://www.esumsoft.com/products/pop-pe ... veFromList

A few notes:
- As was mentioned, downloading an older webmail version wouldn't have helped. The previous update (v4.2.1) was in response to changes that Yahoo had made and WebMail updates are typically made such that they only respond to the changes present in the new interface; that is, person A may have the newest interface, but person B may still have the old interface because webmail services don't usually roll out all the changes to everyone at the same time, so POP Peeper has to keep supporting both (and, in this case, I'm not referring to "basic" vs "full" interface, but rather the incremental changes that occur within each interface).

- This change only affects the "basic" inteface; as the "full" interface was still working with attachments. The reason you didn't notice a difference when you changed is because of cookies. POP Peeper would continue to use the "basic" interface until PP was restarted. And, at that point, you would still have to re-download the messages because PP has already cached the messages sans attachments.

I think that covers everything :)

Jeff, lakrsrool, and spc3rd... thank you! My notes are below. Long story short, the new webmail v4.2.2 is working okay for Yahoo's Full version, but not for Yahoo Basic.

I updated to WebMail v4.2.2. I cleared cookies and removed messages. However, that didn't work in Yahoo Basic so I switched Yahoo's Full version. I then cleared cookies and removed messages again. That worked! I then reverted back to Basic mail, cleared cookies, removed messages, but that doesn't work. So I've switched back to Yahoo's Full version for now. At least I'm able to get attachments again :)

Not a big fan of Yahoo Full version. If you make another fix with Yahoo Basic I'd be happy to test it out. If not, I'm just fine with Yahoo Full version.

Thank you again!!

I've tested with 3 different accounts -- 2 that were previously basic and one that I switched back to basic and they all worked.

Try sending yourself an attachment, preferrably either a .zip or .jpg attachment. I did have to make a special case for images as they didn't appear at first, so it's possible that there are other file attachments that won't be found either. If the .zip/.jpg attachment shows up for you, let me know what types of attachments your others -- that didn't work -- are.

Hi Jeff,

I switched back to Basic Yahoo and tried sending pdf, zip, and jpg in separate emails. It's working again! The only thing I've done since yesterday is reinstalled IE 11. Not sure if that might have done something.

Thanks again!
