'BCC' not working

Post by Nutford2 »

Sorry if this has been dealt with before, but can't see it...

Since updating to 4.2.0.0, the 'bcc' option no longer works on any of my emails. I never receive the copies, either on Poppeeper or in the email inbox.

This may be something stupid I've not done....

Any advice appreciated!

Hi Nutford2,

While awaiting further review of your issue by other PP Team members please check your "Junk" folders just to make sure the BCC message did not inadvertently end up there (If you have not already done so).

Thank you and best regards,

By default, POP Peeper hides 'BCC' messages that you've sent to yourself. To view hidden messages, select main menu: Messages / Hide hidden messages; hidden messages appear in italics.

However, this won't affect your email server; so, more than likely, they're being redirected, too.

btw, is there a particular type of server you're having a problem with? e.g. edit the account and refer to the "server type" -- IMAP, POP3, Hotmail/Outlook, etc.

Hi.
Well - it wasn't set to hide messages, but I checked it both ways to be sure. Most of my accounts are IMAP - it did work with a POP one I tried. No, they're not in junk.

I've also noticed that whereas I used to be able to highlight an email address, click compose, and it would compose from that address (Well I THINK I did!?) now, it does it from the same address, whichever I highlight, and I have to change the selection to send from a different one.... ? Or am I just imagining how it worked before - we had 3 months without internet, thanks to our 'friends' at BT Openreach, so it all seemed rather new when we got it back!

As far as sending email, there's no difference between POP3 and IMAP -- they both use SMTP to send, so I can assure you the problem is not with POP Peeper. Try using BCC to send to a completely different address and see if that address receives the email. My guess is that there's some filter on the server that's doing something with the BCC. Just to confirm, when Pete mentioned checking the "Junk" folders -- did you check the online junk/spam folders? ie. not the AntiJunk filtering in POP Peeper.

As for composing, there's a popup that allows you to set a specific account to use and you must have told it not to display that prompt again. You'll need to reset it to show that prompt again:
- From the main menu, select Tools / Options
- Select the "General" page
- Near the bottom is "reset confirmation prompts" -- you'll need to enable it and this will, of course, reset ALL prompts and then press OK

The next time you compose a message, you should see the prompt I was referring to:
PP_SendMail_SelectAccount.png
To get the old behavior, and the one you described, you'll want to tick "do not show this prompt again" but NOT "use this account by default..."

3 *months* without internet...? I stare blankly at my monitor with a dumbfounded expression when my internet is out for 3 *minutes*

Jeff -

Had already tried the 'sending bcc to a different account'. Doesn't work. And yes, I checked the main junk folders not just PP. :?

Re nominating account - that worked perfectly :D Thanks for that.

And yep - 3 months without internet, of which 6 weeks we didn't have a phone line either. No, we are not in the midst of Dartmoor but 6 miles outside Ripon. It wasn't even a new-build, a truck had brought the old line down and they wouldn't reconnect it because it would happen again. They established (after 2 weeks) they could connect it to a different (rather more obvious) post right outside the house (!) but the guy said he couldn't do it because 'I haven't updated my qualification to put the warning bollards in the right places while I lift the ground hatch'..... That was when we did begin to scream a little.

They then got into an argument with PlusNet (BT said they'd connected the internet, PlusNet said they hadn't), resolved 3 weeks later when BT admitted they'd connected it to a completely different phone number/house. By then we were screaming quite loudly.... So a little problem with PP is as nothing to us now lol!

If you email me (support at esumsoft dot com), I can tell you how to enable logging. This way, we can at least make sure that POP Peeper is telling the server to send the BCC. I'm confident that there's no specific problem with that, though, since I use BCC all the time myself and you've said it works on other accounts; but it may provide some insight.
