Gmail - WebMail: Sync Read-Status

Post by Moshe »

Hello,

Due to some current issues with Gmail IMAP I've switched to WebMail.

When a message is marked as read in PP it's still marked as UNREAD in Gmail.
How can I change that?

(I didn't have this issue with IMAP).

Thank you.

STR:
Set "Options -> Message Retrieval -> WebMail" to "Entire Message".
Send a message (from PP) to your own account.
Check Mail.
Open the message or mark it as read.

Open Gmail in your browser.

Result:
The message is unread.

Thank you.

Another Case:
Set "Options -> Message Retrieval -> WebMail" to "Entire Message".
Send a message (from PP) to your own account.
Check Mail.
Open the message or mark it as read.

Close PP.
Reopen PP.

Result:
The message is unread.

Thank you.

Try switching back to IMAP again for this account that you are discussing.

Thanks for replying.

I've tried that. The problem is still there.

Take a look at this topic at this point HERE and read on from that point as far as Jeff's post.

To clarify, if you happen to find what ademar found as posted following the post by Jeff in that topic, that is that the init and data paths start out with "C:\Program Files" then read the post following ademar's post where I posted steps to resolve the issue (which you can see from the subsequent post solved the problem )

WebMail does not support read-sync like IMAP does. It's one of the many advantages imap has over webmail.

For webmail:
- POP Peeper only uses the read-status the first time it sees the message. If PP doesn't already have the message listed and the message has previously been marked as read on the server, then it will appear in PP as read.
- Marking a message as read/unread in PP has no effect on the message on the server
- Opening a message from PP WILL mark the message as read on the server (you said otherwise, so if it's important to you, you may want to confirm that for yourself)

As I mentioned in email, I'd really suggest sticking with imap and using forwarding until (if...) the problem is resolved.

btw, for lakrsrools -- the problem that Moshe is having with his imap account is that one particular gmail account is very slow (e.g. 50 seconds to access with no email) and there appears to be something wrong with that account that only Gmail can fix, so he's looking for alternative methods in the meantime.
