Old message of the day keeps coming up

Post by ata »

I just got a new 64bit computer and downloaded pop peeper for it.
POP Peeper 4.3.0.0
Webmail 4.3.1.0
SSL 1.0.2.8
IMAP 4.3.0.0
Sendmail 4.3.0.0
PWtweaker 4.3.0.0

For the past 3 days now, everytime I start POP peeper (Just when I startup the computer) it shows the message of the day icon. I click on it and it brings up the Message from January 2, 2017 and then I click the close button. Why is this always coming back each day?

Hi ata,

Sorry to hear of the issue you're experiencing. I've only been able to find one topic post in which another member experienced a problem nearly identical to yours. However, that topic is over 2 years old and involved an earlier version of PP. Hence, the instructions provided back then may not be applicable with the current version you are using.

In the interim, while awaiting further review of the problem by Jeff and other members of the Esumsoft Team, please do the following:

[Check if the poppeeper.ini file is set to "Read-only"]

1. In PP, select Tools > Options > Storage.

2. Refer to what is shown in the box to the right of "Ini Location".

(E.g., on my Win 7, the poppeeper.ini file is located at:
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\POP Peeper\...)

3. Go to the folder containing the poppeeper.ini file & right-click on poppeeper.ini. Select Properties.

4. At the bottom of the Properties box, check to see whether or not the "Read-only" box is ticked.

5. What operating system are you using?

In your next post, please include your responses to Items # 4 & 5 above.

[NOTE]: Please do NOT make any changes to your POP Peeper settings at this time!

Once Jeff and other members of the Esumsoft Team have been able to review your issue, they will be able to provide further follow-up with you.

Thank you and best regards,

Looking in the same "storage" window as spc3rd had you go to ("Tools" > "Options" > "Storage") what is the file path you use for your Ini location setting (where your "poppeeper.ini" resides)? [edit from Jeff: need both 'Ini location' and 'data path']

Note: I get the same message of the day, but once read the icon does not return:

Ini location: C:\Users\(name)\AppData\Roaming\POP Peeper\poppeeper.ini
Data path: C:\Users\(name)\AppData\Roaming\POP Peeper

These locations were the default when Poppeeper installed.

Those should be good.

Have you noticed if any other settings aren't getting saved? For example, if you move or resize the window, does it stay there or return to where it was before?

If, after reading the motd, you manually exit and restart PP, does the motd button return?

I haven't noticed any other settings not being saved. When I do move the windows they do stay.

I have tried after reading the message exit PP and then restart. The motd button does not return, but does return after a shutdown the computer for the day.

Both of those are... weird.

Can you edit your poppeeper.ini file (any text editor) and search for:
MOTD =
("motd" should start the line)
and let me know what the value is. The expected value is 010217. This represents the date (MMDDYY) of the last motd you've read.

Actually, get that value now, and then get it again the next time after you restart PP (but before you open the MOTD).

Also: are you running any kind of "cleaner" utility?
