Pop Peeper Keeps Crashing

Pop peeper started crashing after reading a few emails last week. I tried upgrading but after it loads an email a pop-up comes up asking a choice to close or go to the next email. When a choice is made it crashes. It crashed with the previous version so something is going on with program itself and the win 7-64 bit version I have. Any suggestions on what might be going on ? Thanks and God bless.

Do you remember what previous version you had? And what is the current version that you have (listed under Help / About)?

I assume the choice your prompted for is when you tell POP Peeper to delete the message -- What choice did you make when deleting?
Does it crash every time you try to delete?
Does it crash when you try to delete from the main message list?

Any other details that you can think of (especially as far as patterns) and provide may be useful.

It was the last #3 version. I kept getting update for 4.0 versions but it was was working without a hitch so I kept skipping it. One day last week it just started crashing after opening and viewing emails. I figured it might have and issue due to not updating so I updated. It opened and some note showed up about version changes. I proceeded to click on an email and a smaller window opened with the email. I made the window full size and when i get the delete pop up having me choose what to do no matter which choice I pick it crashes. I can can mark items for delete on the main screen and check for mail and it deletes and brings new mail but it the viewing part is where I'm crashing. But the old #3xxx versing started crashing when trying to view also. Is this maybe a W7 or Java issue. W7 had updates recently but I don't know how close it was when the crashing started.

Does it only crash when you try to delete the email? ie. does it ever crash if you simply close the view-message window?

Please answer/report the following:

1) How many accounts do you have?

2) Message information:
a) In the Accounts List (left side of PP), right-click below your last account and select "server info (all)" (make sure that "all" is included)
b) Select and copy the information in the window
c) Paste the information in your reply

3) Plugin information:
a) From the main menu, select File / Error overview
b) Press the "copy" button
c) Paste the information in your reply

4) Someone else has also very recently reported a similar problem, so I'm wondering if there is a compatibility issue with some software you're running. Can you let me know what security-related programs you're using (AntiVirus, firewall, malware, etc.)

Ok, I have six accounts. One AIM, is the only item that shows up in the "error record" as I forgot what I changed the password to. As for right clicking in the first column, I just get "check mail" , "create account with wizard" and " view messages all accounts. I have Bit defender total security 2017. CC cleaner is also active. PP loads, checks and deletes mail without issue but when I choose what to in the "delete" choices is what initiates the crash. One time I actually got through 3-4 emails before it crashed. I can close the window and look at another email without issue. Thanks for your time. God bless.

Do you happen to have Nielsen Online installed?

In my previous email, I mentioned that another person had a very similar problem. Last week, we had a TeamViewer session where I could view his desktop. What we ultimately did:
- Looked through his list of installed apps, sorted by date installed
- he knew -- within a day -- of when the problem started with PP, so he had 3 apps installed on that day
- one of them was Nielsen Online
- we killed the nielsenonline processes (there were 3 of them, as I recall) and then POP Peeper was able to work perfectly
- unfortunately, the nielsenonline processes restart themselves automatically, so within a few minutes, PP was crashing again
- we tried disabling nielsen from starting at Windows Startup (via msconfig), but this didn't work -- it still started (one might draw certain conclusions from this type of behavior... )
- he uninstalled NielsonOnline and he says that now PP is working fine

Specifically, the crash occurs when PP displays an HTML message and that window is closed (or you use next/previous message). If you view the same message using plain or rich text, it won't crash. So if you find a specific message that crashes and you want to confirm this behavior: right-click on the message and select View -> View plain text; close the message and it shouldn't crash as it would if you viewed it as html.

My advice if you do have Nielson Online installed is to uninstall it. If you don't know what it is, don't assume that you don't have it, there's a chance that it comes pre-installed (possibly on Dell machines? Please confirm if this is the case). From what I've read (which makes sense since I know what the Nielsen company is as far as television is concerned), this software tracks your internet activity and sends it to them for research.

If you don't have Nielsen Online installed, can you tell what other programs you may have installed at around the time the problem with PP started?

Yes, Neilson online was just recently installed. 8) . I will check that out.

UPDATE: Deleted it and I am back to normal. THANKS :D . I am on a fixed income so the help is much appreciated. God bless you. Jesus is our hope for the future !
