Using v4.5 on Gmail POP3 account with Let less secure apps use your account = OFF, I receive a yellow mark after mail check.
In order to fix this I have to set "Let less secure apps use your account" = ON.
PopPeeper is not a secure app?

You have to use IMAP for the secure app feature. The technical term is "OAuth2" -- if you edit the account, change the "server type" to IMAP, you'll see the "Oauth2" button appear next to the "login name" (right-side); press it and follow the instructions.
As far as I know, GMail (nor any other email service) does not support OAuth2 for POP3. It is typically only supported by the IMAP and SMTP protocols. So if you want to use POP3, you will have to enable less secure apps, and that would be for POP Peeper or any other email client. However, as far as POP Peeper is concerned, I would highly recommend using IMAP regardless.
And, just to make sure of the OAuth2 for POP3 situation, I found this thread:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1174505
Which suggests the probability that gmail/pop3 does not support oauth2, but the question was raised because Thunderbird was offering OAuth2 as a choice for pop3. So -- I just checked TB -- and it no longer gives oauth2 as an option for gmail/pop3.
