Problem with date format in Yahoo emails

Post by alexco »

Hello,

There seems to be a problem with the date format of Yahoo mail messages.

Setup:
Windows 7
POP Peeper version: 4.5.0.0
Webmail version: 4.5.2.0
Windows short date format is "dd/MM/yyyy"
Windows long date format is "dddd dd MMMM yyyy"

Yahoo account set to retrieve headers only. The problem does not reproduce when retrieving previews.

The problem appears in the date/time column of the Inbox:
1. Messages with dates between days 1 and 12 of the month display the date using "MM/dd/yyyy" format. For example, March 8, 2018 is displayed as "03/08/2018".
2. Messages with dates between days 13 and 31 of the month display the date using "dddd, d/MM/yy" format. For example, March 20, 2018 is displayed as "Tue, 3/20/18".
3. Time is not displayed at all.
4. I've attached two screenshots to demonstrate.

You can imagine the sort order in the inbox is not really useful this way ...

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Does the date format displayed in your Yahoo inbox (ie. when you visit https://mail.yahoo.com with your webbrowser) match your computer? ie. since your computer uses dd/mm/yy, does your Yahoo inbox also show dd/mm? This is necessary for POP Peeper to know which date format Yahoo is using.

However, there is a better solution -- use IMAP instead of webmail:
1) Edit your account in POP Peeper
2) Change the "server type" from "Yahoo" to "IMAP"
3) Press the "OAuth2" button which will appear to the right of your "login name" and follow the instructions

Thanks Jeff, switching to IMAP worked great.

As for the web UI, they just display "Mar 28", regardless of my local settings.

Thanks again.
