Hi ES,

I've set PP at a 15 minutes mail check but I swear I get notifications as if
it was set at 1 minute.

What is the fix, plzthx!

It all depends upon what protocol you might be using (what your "Server type" is set at) in regards to the Email Clients involved that support "IDLE/push" and if "IDLE/push" is enabled. If you have any accounts that use "IMAP" with "IDLE/push" enabled (which by the way is the recommended settings to use) then you will receive those accounts messages as they become available (arrive) on the Server regardless of what your PP Mail Check "polling interval" is set at.

So what Email Clients are we talking about here; MSN (Hotmail/Outlook) or Yahoo or Gmail etc., and what type of connection (protocol) you are using -- that is what is the "Server type" set at, i.e. "IMAP", POP3" or "Webmail"? (i.e. "Hotmail/Outlook", "Yahoo" or "Gmail", respectively) and depending upon the Email Client and if you are using "IMAP" have you enabled "IDLE/push"?

Now I get it.

It has always worked within the polling interval for months, if not years and I didn't touch
the settings at all. But now it's every minute.

I guess I'll have to check the settings. Thx!

You will need to edit each of the accounts in question to check these settings in the account "Edit" interface window.

If you have in the past been getting your messages for these accounts as of the intervals when your "Polling Interval" setting is set at (which is presumably set at every 15 minutes) then I would presume that you must not have been using "IMAP" with the "IDLE/push" option enabled during that time. If you have not changed any settings then I'm at a loss as to why you are now getting different "Mail Check" results than you have been getting in the past.

Other members of the Esumsoft Team may have additional feedback regarding the issue you are reporting.

Please post back what the connection settings are for each of the accounts you are questioning (found in your accounts "Edit" window) and be sure and let us know what Email Service you are using i.e. Yahoo, Gmail etc., for these accounts in question.

Also when editing the account(s) you might want to check the account specific "Polling Interval" settings for each of the accounts under the "Advance" tab in the Accounts "Edit" interface to see if you may have set a "Polling Interval" specific to the account (keep in mind that this "Polling Interval" setting in the Accounts "Advanced" window of the accounts "Edit" interface will, if implemented, override the global [general] "Polling Interval" setting in "Tools">"Option">"Mail Check").

Thanks.

Ok, I checked and "server type" was set on "IMAP" on Gmail with "Idle/Push" checked.

On "advanced settings 1", polling was at zero.

I tested by switching server type to "Gmail" and so far all the emails came in at every 15 minutes!

Exactly (you can rely on this) --- this is to be expected using "Webmail" based on your reported global "Polling Interval" value.

As it should, using the "Webmail" protocol (Server type = "Gmail" in your case) will result in POP Peeper only (automatically) checking for messages according to what you have your global "Polling Interval" in "Tools">"Options">"Mail Check" set at i.e. at 15 minutes in your case.

Using "Webmail" ("Gmail" in your case) you will of course not have the advantage as you had before of getting your messages as they arrive on the Gmail Server. Keep in mind you always have the option to use "IMAP" (which is the referred protocol) and NOT enable "IDLE/push" which will have the same result because with "IDLE/push" disabled -- incoming messages will not get "pushed" to your inbox when they reach the Gmail Server hence messages would in this case also get retrieved by PP every 15 minutes based on your current "Polling Interval" setting (assuming your preference is to have PP only retrieve messages every 15 minutes).

Do NOT use the "Gmail" server type setting. If your only wish is to have a 15 minute interval instead of "when you get new email" then use IMAP and simply disable the "idle" feature. Trust me -- using Imap now may save you some headaches later.

Thank you guys, it's not longer a problem and I reswitched to your recommended
IMAP setting for all my Gmail accounts.

Now another problem for one Gmail account: the dreaded
"Error ([ALERT] Please log in via your web browser: https://support.google.com/mail/accounts/answer/78754 Failure)"

Very similar to a recent thread:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7161

So I updated the Webmail plugin, matched the correct password on PP and on Gmail,
tried to OAuth2 the account but it wouldn't let me go further with the window
disappearing as fast as it appeared.

--- Version ---
OS: Windows 10 (x64)
POP Peeper: 4.5.1.0
Webmail: 4.5.4.0
SSL: 1.0.2.11
IMAP: 4.5.1.0
SendMail: 4.5.0.0
Notification Skin: 4.3.0.0
Profile Picture: 4.5.0.0 (disabled)
AntiJunk: 4.5.0.0 (disabled)
Spell Checker: 4.5.0.0 (disabled)
Web of Trust: 4.5.0.0 (disabled)

--- Error ---
[1000: IMAP] ['imap.gmail.com' (993) SSL: 1] [Smtp: 'smtp.gmail.com' (465) SSL: 1] [Consec: 3]
- Error ([ALERT] Please log in via your web browser: https://support.google.com/mail/accounts/answer/78754 Failure)

Which steps did I miss? Thx.

Please refer to this post by Jeff on this subject: Re: 0auth setup Script window - what goes in there?

Also when you do a log-in via your web browser (which is what Gmail is requesting of you) -- make sure if you are already logged-in that you log-off and then log-in again. Presumably you will get the message that is linked in the error information -- but it is always a good idea to do a "fresh" log-in first to make sure what it is that Gmail is communicating to you (presumably doing an OAuth2 is necessary). Note: if you have already done an "OAuth2" then you will get a message first in regards to re-authorizing which may entail "un-authorizing" and then authorizing again. (It's basically doing all the same steps however with a slight variation the first time - when re-authorization is needed. As long as you follow through with each step it should work out.)

One other thing you could check when you are logged-in your Gmail account via the web.

Check to make sure you have "IMAP" enabled in the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab of Gmail Settings (as illustrated in the screen-shot):

You access Gmail Setting via the "gear" icon in your inbox page:

I logged-in, out and in again three times in a row and PP still doesn't sync.

PP still won't let me authorise the account when clicking on "OAuth2". Usually I get the message
"Do you want to delete the existing OAuth credentials so that you can re-authorize PP" but nothing
on that specific account.

IMAP is selected on the Gmail account, yes. I even turn it off, save, and on again then save.

This is odd... :?

Have you tried exiting PP (right-click on the tray icon and select "exit"):
Exit PP screen-shot.png
Exit PP screen-shot.png (11.06 KiB) Viewed 11714 times
.. and then restart PP and try the OAuth2 again?

... If no help -- then perhaps try rebooting your computer.... #-o

Just did it and still won't let me OAuth2.

The OAUTh2 Authentification request window only appears for a split second.

Oh come on, I retested by switching to Gmail instead of IMAP and it's now retrieving all the emails
as I write this! :x

Another test from server type:Gmail to IMAP on PP and it's back with OAUTh2 not accessible.

I was just entering the following:

If a computer reboot did not help either --- then try changing this account back to "Gmail" (Server type = Gmail") then do a "Mail Check" -- the account should retrieve messages successfully (it will probably take longer for the "Mail Check" to complete - due to the change in protocols).

Then after that "Mail Check" is done switch the account back to "IMAP" and then go ahead and try the "OAuth2" button and then see if all is well in regards to retrieving messages again.

Hehe, looks like it!

I just retried the server type from Gmail to IMAP and still no good.
