When moving IMAP messages between folders, is it done server side?

That is, does it download the message, upload it to another folder, then delete the original message - or does it use actual IMAP commands to do it right from the server?
Just curious.

It's done on the server, which is why -- currently -- you can only move messages within the same email account/address. I would like to be able to move/copy messages between email addresses in the future, which would use the upload capability.
