Run rules on existing emails?

Hi,
I checked the help file as well as tried searching the forum.
Is there any way I could run rules on existing emails already received?
Some sample use cases:
1. I wanted to use a different back color for some emails with a specific subject
2. I wanted to assign a user flag to some emails from a specific sender.
So far I found that these rules apply only on new emails received AFTER the rule is created.
Am I missing some step to run these on existing emails?
Please guide.
