PP 5.5.3 Marking Emails for Deletion?

This morning I had four emails. None were junk. Two were white-listed.

I double-clicked one message to read it, and when I closed that window, all four messages had the garbage can icon... and I didn't put it there. If I hadn't moved quickly to Undelete, all four would have been gone.

Any thoughts?

Update - I deleted and reinstalled 5.5.3. No more deletions.

I have no idea what happened.

Did the messages have a red-X or a blue trashcan (I know you said the garbage can but I just want to verify)? The red-X represents "no longer on server" whereas the blue trashcan means "marked for delete."

If you're used to v3, it used a blue-X for "marked for delete" (identical to "no longer on server" except for the color), which is why I wonder if you may have misconstrued the red-X for "marked for delete". Also, possibly relevant, v5 allows you to access the message list while a view-message window is still open, and in certain cases, messages will appear with a red-X when those messages were deleted while you were viewing them; the same thing would happen in v3, but because the view-message windows were modal, it's less likely you would have seen the red-X because the view-message window could be covering the message list. Note that this scenario is not the only case where a red-X would appear.

I got the trash can. I don't know what the problem is, but POP Peeper is putting the delete markers on again. As soon as I open PP, the markers show up. White list, black list, doesn't seem to matter.

This morning I got a mail from Malwarebytes. It had the trash-can icon. Got another one from my bank (also white-listed) which also had the trash can. I can only wonder how many notes I've missed. I would much rather see spam than to lose a real email.

Malwarebytes? My bank? Seriously?

I have downgraded to 3.8.1. I hope someone can fix 5.5.3. After all, I paid for it.

POP Peeper's AntiJunk does not delete by default; nor would it (by default) delete if the sender is on the white list.

Please email me (support at esumsoft dot com) so that we can investigate this further. If you still have any messages that PP marked for deletion, they would be helpful, too. I can't remember if v3 had a dedicated "save as", but if not, you can "View source" and then save that to a file (2-3 samples should be fine).

Oops, I'm back on 3.8.1 now.

According to my receipts, I have been using 5.5.3 for two months, and this is a recent problem. Perhaps a Windows update broke something. (It's been known to happen, lol)

I went back & forth with a friend of mine over missing messages two days ago... now I know why. Today, I opened the program, and a split second later (but slow enough to watch it happen) the garbage can showed up. This was an email address I had already marked "Legit" and white-listed, with a green flag. I don't have a copy.

I'm not sure I want to reinstall 5.5.3 right now.
