Re: pop peeper and wot
This is old news back in 2016 that has been addressed and I might add had absolutely no security issue impact at any level on POP Peeper regarding at that time anyway, FWIW here is a response from WOT regarding the security concerns expressed at that time: https://www.mywot.com/en/forum/70818-to ... -community.
In regards to how POP Peeper uses WOT, only domain names are sent to WOT to be verified and in no way is any POP Peeper users personal (private) information involved in the case of POP Peeper's use of WOT.
Here is a post by Jeff on this topic at that time: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6710&p=33503#p33497. And another topic on disabling WOT: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6776&p=33950#p33950.
You could also take a look at WikiPedia on this topic and scroll down to the "Privacy issues" part of the page regarding WOT Services:

That said, since there cannot be any security or privacy issues as a result of the manner in which WOT is integrated with POP Peeper; in my opinion I don't see any need to disable WOT (and in my case have not since it does provide an additional level of security). In a blog post published on December 19, 2016, WOT Services stated that they had upgraded their browser extension, and released it in the Google Chrome extension gallery. The upgraded version included "several major code updates in order to protect our users privacy and an opt-out option from the user Settings, for users who do not wish to share data with us but still want to have easy access to WOT."[21] In February 2017, Mozilla reinstated the WOT browsing tool in the Firefox add-on store.[22]

Re: pop peeper and wot
OK with all you wrote but They talked about it on TV yesterday and that's why I allowed myself to come and ask the question. But anyway, they collect the data anyway, even if they are anonimized, and I do not like that ... sorry ... Would you allow someone to decide for you, what is good or bad in your mailbox? And what's more, at a glance at what you do? So, for my part, as I now know how to do (I read the old posts that you told me), I would decide myself if a mail is serious or not and as it is possible in the options, I disable the pluggin in pop peeper.
Thanks in any case for the quick response.

Re: pop peeper and wot
What WOT did by sending full URLs to 3rd parties was egregious because the information could contain email addresses, logins, passwords and other PII.
Does WOT record the information it receives from POP Peeper users? I have no idea, but I would assume so (just as I assume that every single website I visit logs statistics). But since the only identifiable information that they can tie it to is an IP address and it's not like they're able to send you advertisements, I don't know what they could use the information for (*except* anonymous statistics). Imo, the data that the likes of Google and Facebook collect is far scarier than what WOT could do with information it gets from PP.
One thing to keep in mind which is what I think is probably the most useful aspect about the WOT plugin: it can help prevent you falling for a phishing site. If you click on a link that you expect to take you to ebay, paypal, bank or whatever and it's actually a phishing URL, there's a good chance that WOT will have the link rated poorly or not at all, and PP will warn you in either case by default. Also, PP doesn't use WOT to determine if the message is good or bad, it only shows you a warning when you click on a suspicious link in the email.
That being said, I fully support your decision to disable the WOT plugin. They messed up, plain and simple, and they deserve retribution for that. But simply collecting anonymous data is not the reason to shun WOT; otherwise, you wouldn't be able to use the internet.
