I'm a little surprised there isn't one by default, since I prefer keyboard shortcuts myself, but I guess I tend to use drag&drop or copy/paste to attach and never thought about it.
So I've added a default shortcut of Ctrl+Shift+A for PPv6; this is the same shortcut that ThunderBird uses.
That being said, you don't have to wait for PPv6 because you can set your own default already:
PP main menu: Tools / PPtweaker
"Shortcuts" page
Change "Window" dropdown = "Send Mail"
Change "Attach File" shortcut (make sure you press the "assign" button after setting the shortcut)

Visual: make shortcut.png (I too was surprised to find it wasn't there by default - for same reason )
This is great!
I am a new user, and somehow I missed the option to create shortcuts myself.
I did know (and use) about PPtweaker, and even did customize some of the existing shortcuts, but I missed the option to assign it to (almost) any menu-option.
It's a 1st World Problem, but dragging and dropping my files in the compose window is not the most optimal workflow for me.
So I assigned "SHIFT + A" to "open attachment window", which is even one key shorter
