"Delete" marker

Long-time user. I just switched from version 3.8 to 5.5.3. One question:

If I have a screen full of mail, and I've marked some for deletion and read others, how do I know which is which? They're all marked "Read" now. Bring back the "X", please... or at least make it optional.

Thinking of switching back to 3.8...

OK, I just found out that if I use the "!" column, the trash can will show. That'll work.

Something about old dogs and new tricks...

It's been a while since I've used v3, but I'm pretty sure that it also used the '!' column for the delete icon (though it was a blue-X as you alluded to).
