Want To Open New Emails With Firefox

Post by tb75252 »

I am using POP Peeper 4.4.2 on a PC with Windows 7 Professional (64-bit). The Windows's default browser is Internet Explorer 11.

I went to Tools -> PPtweaker...-> Misc 2. Checked the box for "Force POP Peeper to open links in your external browser instead of internal browser".

* Inserted in the "Browser to launch URL" box this address: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe. When I double-click on a new email, POP Peeper's internal browser opens instead of Firefox.

* Went back to Misc 2 and left the "Browser to launch URL" box empty thinking that this would launch Internet Explorer (since it is the default browser) when double-clicking on a new message. It still launches POP Peeper's internal browser!

* Went back to Misc 2 and in the "Browser to launch URL" box I inserted: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe. It still launches POP Peeper's internal browser!!

What am I doing wrong? The goal is to click on a new message within POP Peeper, launch the browser of my choice (Firefox, if possible) and read the new email(s) with that browser.

Hi tb75252, there may be some misunderstanding regarding this setting, so to clarify:
This setting is for opening any links that may exist in your email messages:
Clicking on any links in your message will open that website page in the browser you have for this setting.
Clicking on any links in your message will open that website page in the browser you have for this setting.
Notice the setting refers to "links" (click image to read easier):
Links pointed out in my message will open those links in my default browser the way I have it set.
Links pointed out in my message will open those links in my default browser the way I have it set.
When you click on a specific message in your POP Peeper inbox it will open the message in the POP Peeper interface window illustrated in the first screen-shot (if a message has links that will open a website page then what will be used to read that link is determined by these settings. The browser that will be used to view the link is determined by these specific settings if you have selected the check box to view in "external browser". If you leave the "Browser to launch URLs" box blank then the URL links will open in your default browser (in this case you've said that is IE). If you do not want to open URL links in the default browser then you would enter the path to the browser that you do want the URL links to open in.

Aaaahhhhhhh... I definitely misunderstood the purpose of the setting! Thanks for clarifying things for me.
So... there is now way for me to double-click on a message (within POP Peeper) and open said message with a web browser other than POP Peeper's internal one?

If I am understanding your question correctly; web browsers are not intended to open email messages. Email messages are read via an Email Client application of some kind.

You do have the option to access your default Email Client via POP Peeper (assuming it is different than POP Peeper based on the settings in the screen-shot below) to access your email messages by clicking "File" > "Run Email Client" from POP Peeper main menu or click on Email Client button (if you have this set up in PP) which will close POP Peeper and open your Email Client program (see screen-shots), but I don't think this is what your are asking as this has nothing to do with using a browser (which again does not "read" email messages).

Typically what I do in order to read my Yahoo!Mail messages is launch Firefox, go to mail.yahoo.comand login with my credentials. After that, I proceed to read my web mail messages with Firefox. The advantage of reading my messages with a browser (such as Firefox) is that I can save said messages in custom folders that I have created within my Yahoo!Mail account. I don't think (I could be wrong!) that I can do the same thing while reading my messages within POP Peeper's internal browser.
Am I wrong?

You are using Webmail on the Internet (using a browser of choice) to access your Yahoo email account(s) and perhaps there is a misunderstanding between a browser and an Email Client (POP Peeper is not a "browser" so to speak).

If you have the POP Peeper Plus Pack (or using PRO) you can take a look at "Remote folders" in this Plus Pack link I have provided. Also you can take a look at FAQ on this for more info. I don't use PP remote folders, but maybe other members of The Esumsoft Team will be reviewing your topic and be able to provide additional information on this.

Addendum: Btw, you can click HERE for a post by Jeff that I've just now been able to find that provides similar information on this.

First, you can organize messages into folders with POP Peeper Pro. You must be using IMAP (this is the default protocol for Yahoo) and you must have POP Peeper Pro (not the free version or the Plus Pack). See this for more information:
http://www.esumsoft.com/products/pop-pe ... vemessages

With either the Plus Pack or Pro, you can view messages in other folders.

It sounds like you want the capability to view the message directly in your Yahoo inbox, as opposed to simply opening the message in your browser (those could be 2 different things and the latter is what I assumed until your last reply). Once upon a time, POP Peeper could do this when using the webmail protocol ("view message online"), but as webmail services started using new web technologies, this became impossible/impractical to support. But, again, it sounds like POP Peeper Pro already supports the capability that you're looking for.
